ColorSense Privacy Policy
Last updated October 10, 2026
ColorSense is published by CodeBrew, LLC ("we", "us"), 502 W 7th St Ste 100, Erie, PA 16502, United States. This policy covers the ColorSense apps for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, Android, Wear OS, Windows and Linux.
- ColorSense works without an account. Without one, nothing you do in the app is sent to us.
- The camera and the photos you pick are read on your device. We never receive or store images.
- If you sign in, we keep your email address, your palettes and your Pro purchase records so they can follow you between devices.
- We don't sell your information, show ads or track you across apps. The apps send anonymous counts of how the upgrade screen is used, never tied to you.
- You can delete your account and its data from inside the app at any time.
What stays on your device
Identifying colors, the color vision simulation, picking colors from photos, your recent colors and your settings all work on your device. Palettes you save stay on the device. On Apple devices they also sync through your own iCloud account, which Apple runs under its own privacy policy; we can't see that data.
The camera feed and photos are processed on the device to read colors and are never uploaded. When you save a photo with a simulation applied, it goes to your own photo library.
ColorSense account and sync (optional)
You can sign in with your email address to sync palettes between all your devices, including Android, Windows and Linux, and to use ColorSense Pro bought on one platform on the others. When you sign in, we store:
- Your email address, to send you sign-in codes and identify your account.
- Your palettes: their names, their colors, and when they were created, changed or deleted.
- Your Pro purchase records: which store, which product, the store's transaction or order ID and when the purchase expires. We confirm these with Apple, Google or Stripe. We never receive your payment details.
We use this only to sign you in, sync your palettes and unlock Pro on your devices.
Gift codes
If you redeem a gift code on Android, Windows or Linux, we keep a record of each attempt: the code it was for, your account and email address, the platform, device model and app version, the country the request came from, a one-way hash of your network address, the time and whether it worked. We use it to see how gift codes are used and to stop people guessing them.
Anonymous usage counts
To see which parts of the upgrade screen work, the apps send a few anonymous events: when the ColorSense Pro screen opens and from where, which plan was picked, whether a purchase or restore went through, and which Pro feature someone tried. Each event carries a random number made for that installation, the platform and the app version. It never includes your account, email address, network address, colors or palettes, so we can't tell who sent it.
Watches
The Apple Watch app gets your palettes through iCloud. The Wear OS app gets them from ColorSense on your phone through Google's Wearable Data Layer, which stays between your own phone and watch.
Feature requests
In the iPhone and iPad app, you can suggest and vote on features. That board is run by WishKit. It receives the text you write, your votes and an anonymous identifier, plus an email address only if you choose to give one.
Who handles data for us
| Service | What for |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Stores accounts, synced palettes, purchase records, gift code records and the anonymous usage counts (United States). |
| Resend | Sends sign-in code emails. It receives your email address and the code. |
| Apple | App Store purchases and iCloud sync on Apple devices. |
| Stripe | Payments for Pro bought on our website from the Windows and Linux apps. It receives your email address and the payment details you enter there. |
| Google Play purchases, and the phone-to-watch link on Wear OS. | |
| WishKit | The feature request board in the iPhone and iPad app. |
They handle the data only to provide these services to us. We don't share your information with anyone else, except when the law requires it.
Logs
When you are signed in, our hosting provider keeps standard request logs, such as network addresses and times, for a limited period, to run and secure the service.
How long we keep it
Account data stays until you delete your account. Deleted palettes are kept as small deletion markers so your other devices remove them too. Gift code records are kept to show how each code was used. Once your account is deleted, they no longer carry your email address or a link to your account.
Deleting your account
In the app, go to Settings, then Account and Sync, then Delete Account. That deletes your account, the palettes stored with it on our servers and its purchase records. Palettes stay on your device. A subscription bought on our website from the Windows or Linux app is canceled along with the account. Deleting your account doesn't cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription; manage those there.
No longer have the app? Email justin@justinwells.dev from the address you signed in with and we will delete the account within 30 days.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it or to delete it, wherever you live, by emailing justin@justinwells.dev. Residents of places such as the European Union, the United Kingdom and California have these rights by law. We don't sell or share personal information for advertising.
Children
ColorSense isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Data sent between the apps and our servers is encrypted in transit. Each account can only read its own data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update it here and change the date above.
